Bishop Briggs gets emotional at private gig on the Lower East Side – Aug 22, 2019

1I6A1335-1It’s a busy time for British singer/songwriter Bishop Briggs (aka Sarah Grace McLaughlin).  After releasing her debut LP “Church of Scars” in 2018, she has kept on writing, releasing her latest single “Champion” just last month.  Last night, Universal Music threw a her private party at the Angel Orensanz Foundation, old renovated church on the lower east side of Manhattan.  I say private but since Briggs tweeted about it and invited her fans….maybe not so private.

With the rain pouring outside and an open bar inside, the crowd was ready to party when Briggs took the stage.  She started with “Way I Do” from her debut EP in 2016, followed by “Higher” and “Tattooed” from her upcoming record which will be released in the fall.  She talked about her going through a breakup, which was the impetus for some of the lyrics on some of the new songs.  While these were still quite emotional, they also brought a sort of catharsis and joy.  We were so happy to be present for such an intimate occasion.

While it was officially a Universal Music party, most of the crowd was made up of Bishop Briggs fans, who sang along to every song, even from the new record…until Briggs introduced two brand new songs “Can You Hear Me Now” and “Someone Else”.  She closed with the title track from the upcoming LP “Champion” and “River”, her big hit from 2016!  These intimate shows are one of the biggest benefits of living in New York City!

Bishop Briggs will be playing the MTV VMA kickoff concert with Ava Max at Webster Hall on Saturday!  In addition, her tour to support the new record will kick off on October 12th with a stop at Webster Hall once again on October 15th.  Catch her while you can!
