Since the end of their Sister Sister Sister tour, we hadn’t heard much from pop sister band HAIM until they release the single “Summer Girl” just three weeks ago. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they would be playing at Pier 17 as part of the Chase Sound Check series. Not only that but it would be a free concert! I was lucky enough to snag a ticket and headed down to the seaport to get on line early. It seems fans had started lining up in the morning!!
Everything got off to a rousing start as tennis great Serena Williams played MC and introduced the band. HAIM opened with “Falling” and pretty much went through almost all of their singles. As usual, their banter was entertaining as well. Danielle played it straight as usual but Este joked about asking Serena to play tennis and challenged the saxophonist to a contest to see who could sound more like a saxophone; the saxophone or Este!! Meanwhile, Alana was doing her best exhorting the crowd to sing or yell louder. After a brief break, the encore of “Right Now” started with all three sister drumming, driving the crowd to a frenzy! What a way to end the night!
HAIM is working on their new record which is expected to be release later this year. Hopefully, a tour will be forthcoming as well!
