Back in 2010, I used to listen to WRXP, the only alternative rock station in the NYC area. They had a number of online contests for free tickets to some shows, one of which was Company of Thieves at the Studio at Webster Hall. The only song I had heard of a little was “Oscar Wilde”. I managed to win a pass to the show and was one of only 20-30 people at the show, including David Schwimmer from “Friends”. Company of Thieves had a simple stage setup with the 3 band members, singer Genevieve Schatz, guitarist Marc Walloch, and drummer Mike Ortiz. They played 5 songs including “Oscar Wilde”, “Pressure”, and a new song they initially called “Running from a Gamble” (later became “Never Come Back”). The performance was magnetic and the band answered questions, signed posters and took pictures with those of us that attended. What a great way to be introduced to a band…I was hooked!
