Amy Lee and Evanescence took a hiatus after their Open Door tour. In October 2009, Evanescence announced that they would hold a one-off concert at the Grand Ballroom (Hammerstein) on November 4th in NYC to get back into the swing of things and before they work on new music. Through the fan club, they were also giving out Meet and Greets but unfortunately, I wasn’t so lucky. I believe it was based on how long you were a member.
Knowing the incredibly devoted fanbase would start arriving early, we went to the Grand Ballroom at 8am and managed to be only 10 people back. It was going to be quite a long wait. I don’t want to get too much into the mess that Hammerstein made with the Meet and Greet line becoming the 2nd GA line and the elevator issues but suffice to say, there were a lot of unhappy people. Plus by the time we got up there and waited, my wife was feeling a bit lightheaded so, after many hours of waiting, she went and sat upstairs.
Since this was a one-off show, there was no opener. After the hiatus, we didn’t quite know what to expect. However, Amy was in top form. It seems the break was a great refresher and her voice was better than I remembered. Her energy and the energy is the crowd was astounding. I don’t remember the setlist but I do have some pictures and video.

Right…one more thing. If they’re going to put a security guard front and center. Can he not be 6’4″ and refuse to bend down? It’s pretty ridiculous.
