Kylie Minogue plays first ever US show at Hammerstein – Oct 11, 2009

Saturday morning, October 11, 2009.  Nothing better to do but check out what shows are playing.  Turns out Kylie Minogue is in town and it’s her first US performance EVER!!  I remembered Kylie with “The Loco-Motion” from back in the 80s and that she had dated the late Michael Hutchence from INXS.  Didn’t hear from her again until her hit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” in 2001.  I understand she’s a huge draw in Europe and Australia…their “Madonna”.  Since the concert was that night and tickets were available, I bought 2 for my daughter and I and away we went.

There was already a long line when we arrived around 4pm.  Turns out Kylie fans were a lot more fanatic that we realized.  Also, like Madonna fans, there’s a huge gay following.  While waiting, we chatted with some Kylie fans from UK, Australia, etc who had been following her global tour.  Wow!  The guy in front of us shared his glitter with my daughter who was having a great time!

The show began with Kylie descending from the ceiling on top of a glowing skull.  The many costume changes, dancers, background singers and lighting were all spectacular and the crowd danced and sang the whole show.  I enjoy dance music and while this type of concert is not typically my cup of tea, it was a lot of fun.  Kylie Minogue, at 40, still put on a great show!
