Having only recently discovered Your Smith, I was not ready for the amazing evening that awaited me at Rough Trade in Brooklyn on a cold Wednesday night. Caroline Smith had been playing music since she was a teenager in her native Minnesota and after performing under her name for years, she moved to LA in 2018 and changed her stage name to a new alter-ego, Your Smith.
Her first release as Your Smith was the incredible EP “Bad Habit”. I had the title track on repeat for quite a bit. She is currently wrapping up a tour in support of her latest record “Wild Wild Woman”, where I caught her live for the first time.
Opening for Your Smith was LA based New Zealander Chelsea Jade, who has played NYC enough times in the last year…so much so that I would swear she was based here! Her shows are so much fun with the moody lighting and choreographed movements.

Your Smith hit the stage by herself with nothing but her guitar and keyboard. Her presence was palpable as the crowd cheered every movement. Fans of Your Smith (and of Caroline Smith) were out in force, singing and dancing to her set, which comprised of her recent work as well as a couple from her “Caroline Smith” days. She spoke briefly about New Year’s resolutions, declaring that her resolution was to apologize less. Your Smith definitely takes no prisoners and her show is amazing.
