Canadian singer/songwriter Luna Li (aka Hannah Bussiere Kim) played a one-off show at the Elsewhere Rooftop in Bushwick, NY on Monday, July 24th. After last year’s tour, we hadn’t expected her to grace us with her presence so soon but were happy to see this hit our schedule. The show was quickly sold out and, although there was another show at the Elsewhere Zone One space, it seemed that everyone waiting on line when doors opened were there for Luna Li. Sorry to whomever else was performing that evening.
The opener for the night was Austin-based Quiet Light, a project by multi-instrumentalist Riya Mahesh. Playing as a six piece band, they was playing the biggest show of their young careers! With Mahesh’s parents in the audience, they played a short but well received set.

As the audience waited for Luna Li to take the stage, the harp and violin on the stage already spoke to the talent of this multi-instrumentalist. She opened her set with the short but smooth “Alone But Not Lonely”, a small sample of things to come. After four songs from her debut LP “Duality”, released in 2022, she played a medley of songs from her “Jams” EPs. Moving seamlessly between instruments, Li thrilled her fans with her lovely vocals, expert musicianship, and her little dances on the small stage. While the harp and violin were wonderful examples of her talent, the highlight for this writer were her compositions and performance on the guitar during the Jams tracks. Absolutely delightful! Fans were singing along the whole evening and the adoration in some fans’ eyes were truly amazing. Li closed out the night with “Cherry Pit” but it was the previous song “Afterglow” which garnered the biggest reaction from the packed crowd. Luna Li is definitely someone to keep you eye on!
