Lo Moon lays down some serious mood at Drake Underground – May 28, 2022

Back in 2017, when Lo Moon was signed to a major label and was touring extensively, it seemed like the band was ready to explode. It didn’t happen, with differences in marketing strategy between the label and the band. Matt Lowell, formed the band, is the lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, and wrote much of the first record, kept working on the music and their latest album “A Modern Life” released sans record label is an incredible walk through moods and rhythms. For me, they’re reminiscent of acts like Tears for Fears and Bryan Ferry with lush arrangements and soaring falsettos that can’t help but enthrall the audience. With bassist/keyboardist Crisanta Baker, guitarist Samuel Stewart (son of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics and Siobhan Fahey of Bananarama), and drummer Sterling Laws, the band stopped by the Drake Hotel Underground on May 28, 2022 to thrill the audience there.

Opener Adrian Gordon Cook was definitely not what I expected. The instrumental music was also moody and evoked water images (literally with videos of divers showing in the background). However, I think that, while his music is excellent and would be incredible on a soundtrack, I’m not sure it worked that well in a rock concert setting, at least for me.

Lo Moon, however, was everything I expected and more. The music had the audience enraptured and the mood from the record took over the entire venue for the rest of the evening. Definitely check out Lo Moon if you get the chance.
