This past weekend, I photographed my first festival. Pretty unbelievable, isn’t it? Even fellow photographers I saw at the Sea Hear Now festival could have sworn they’ve talked to me at other festivals. As a last minute fill-in, I received my credentials through QRO Magazine.
Not knowing quite what to expect, I took the long drive down from western New York to Asbury Park. My first impressions were…it’s really hot, the stages are actually on the sand, it’s half a mile from one stage to another, and there’s no press tent!! Shooting some acts were easy and others were more challenging (ie. only left or right side). No covid rules so I had my N95 on all day both days (did I mention it was hot?). Anyway, see below for the links to my photos in the QRO galleries for each act:
Day 1
Hirie
Jackson Pines
Cory Henry – he started late so I shot quickly and had to run to the next stage
Reignwolf – definitely one of the highlights
Patti Smith – what else is there to say
Rested for a couple of hours
Lord Huron
Pearl Jam – OMG so good! and so crowded. All shot from stage left but you can’t tell from some of my shots!
Day 2
Ron Artis II and the Truth
Liz Cooper
The Happy Fits
Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears
Orville Peck
Grouplove – love
Billy Idol
Ani DiFranco
Smashing Pumpkins – after seeing them a bunch of times, I finally photographed them officially!!
I was wiped out after the weekend and my hard drive was full. The festival was a good time but it’s not clear to me that I’m interested in doing this again.
