Talented multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Grace Potter stopped by Paste Studios on Wednesday as she begins to promote her upcoming solo album “Daylight” set to be released on October 25th. This will be her first studio album since “Midnight” in 2017, which had a more pop/dance vibe. If the first single “Back to Me” (released last week) is any indication, the sound has more of a soul/rock feel and should please many of Potter’s long time fans. Grace Potter had taken a break from touring after the birth of her son Sagan last year. She says that he inspired her to go back to making music and he’ll join her on the road next year when she tours to support her new record.
She kicked off the session with “Every Heartbeat” which she understandably mistook for “Everyday Love”, “Empty Heart”, and “Love is Love”, other songs from “Daylight” which have “love”, “heart” or “every” in the song name. Many hearts feeling a lot of love. “Every Heartbeat” was written as she was pregnant with Sagan.
This particular Paste Studio session felt so much more like a couple of friends kicking back, hanging out, and shooting the shit rather than an actual interview. Grace Potter’s personality immediately puts you at ease and in an open mood. She said that she hates practicing and recorded her new record completely from live studio recordings rather than tracking the vocals and instruments separately. “On the fly” seems to be her way and it works so well for her. Something funny I learned during the pre-session chat. Do you know what tall women do at Rolling Stone concerts when someone complains about their height? They pee on them!!! Too funny! Grace Potter will be performing at a few festivals before the end of the year and her 2020 tour will be announced soon on her website. It’s so good to have her back again! Her voice is as strong as it’s ever been and we’re looking forward to hearing the rest of the new record!
