Scottish electronic pop band Chvrches hosted the record release party for their latest record “Love is Dead” at iHeartRadio’s tiny venue in Tribeca on a sunny day in May. With a capacity under 200, it promised to be an intimate event. This photographer was lucky enough to score a quick meet and greet with the band before the show. Previously, a fan could always count on meeting the band before and/or after the show as they always made themselves readily available, sometimes even providing popsicles (“lollies” for the Scots) waiting on line. However, recently, with death and rape threats being made to lead vocalist, Lauren Mayberry, those days are most likely long gone.
Since iHeartRadio shows are live streamed, Chvrches hit the stage promptly at 9pm and kicked things off with their latest single “Get Out”. During the live streamed portion of the show, there were brief Q&A’s interspersed with 5 songs, two of which were from the new record and three were older favorites including “The Mother We Share”. Once the live stream ended, Chvrches stayed to play an additional 9 songs, ensuring their fans would go home happy!
