It Begins

While I attended an REM concert at Jones Beach in 2003 and an Erasure concert at Irving Plaza in 2005, it wasn’t until I attended two Robin Hood Foundation shows that I caught the concert bug.

The first was a Rolling Stones show at Radio City Music Hall. The B52s opened and the crowd didn’t really seem interested. I think they were mainly there for the Stones. However, the B52s were still very good and the few of us that were watching had a great time. It was my first Rolling Stones show and I was seriously impressed. Mick Jagger could still bring it even though he’s old as shit. The energy and vocals were fantastic!

At the Robin Hood Annual Gala in April 2007, Aerosmith performed as well as participated in an auction. Two people bid $750,000 a piece to sing on stage with Aerosmith and go home with a video. Crazy money being thrown around at this major fundraiser. I think in all, around $34 million was raised. To be honest, I don’t remember the actual show that well. I think Steven Tyler’s voice hasn’t been the same since the early drug years.
